Chapter 10 - Deborah

Deborah felt amazing. Her body felt light and she’d just had the best sleep she’d had in a while.

She couldn’t believe she had slept with Ryan, despite all the evidence that pointed to the fact. Considering the weird relationship they had, she hadn’t thought that this was something they would ever do, but it had been great—so much better than she thought it would be.

She loved how Ryan had paid attention to her body, worshipping her with his hands and tongue. She didn’t think anything could feel better than that.

She hadn’t imagined that he had it in him, but he had been so sweet, worrying that he could hurt her with the slightest movement. It made her happy that he showed this side of himself to her. She had never seen this side of him, not even when they were younger and she’d hurt herself while they played, because he had always expected her to heal fast. Now, he treated her with care, but wasn’t condescending about her being human.

She stretched, easing the tension from her body, and turned to face him. She jerked slightly when she saw that he was already awake and staring at her with a smile on his face. She smiled back at him. The part of her that had been worried about how he would react when they woke up was relieved that he didn’t appear to regret what they had done.

“Good morning,” he greeted her, taking her fingers in his and bringing them to his lips in a soft kiss. “How did you sleep?”

“Wonderfully. I slept wonderfully.” She smiled when he chuckled, clearly amused by her response.

“Good. How about some breakfast? We need to feed you and the baby,” he suggested, just as her stomach growled loudly. Ryan grinned widely at her and got off the bed. She hurried to the bathroom to clean up and put on something clean, and together they made their way down the stairs in search of breakfast.

Deborah paused at the bottom of the stairs and looked at Ryan. She wrinkled her nose when she sensed miasma in the air, just as Ryan growled, clearly sensing it too. Deborah had always been able to sense miasma. She figured it was because of her ability to create magic, because as a magician she was so close to mana.

“You can sense it too?” Ryan asked, studying the expression on her face.

“Yes, I’ve always been able to sense it, from the very first time the demons started to appear. I guess it’s because I am so close to mana,” she explained. “However, every time when they appeared and everyone went out to fight, I usually stayed inside since I can’t shift. I’ve always felt guilty about it, seeing as I have very strong magic and I know I can help.”

Sitting still while others defended the clan was something that had always bothered her, but she knew for the sake of her parents, if not for herself, that she couldn’t afford to draw attention to herself.
